One of my absolute favorite countries in the world is Italy. As there are a lot of Lost Places including beautiful architecture, friendly people, stunning landscapes and tasty cuisine – I am visiting Northern Italy at least once in a year. Last summer we spent our main vacation here to photograph many beautiful lost places and additionally organized a great photo shooting with model Laila Bastet and designer Giulia Danese.
I am often get asked, how I find those places. Every trip is well prepared by an intensive research work. Unfortunately, I am not always successful with the “findings”. Sometimes the locations are locked or vandalized. This is frustrating, but it is always part of such a journey. On the other hand are these special magical places, like the place I show you in this blog entry, with impressions, you will never forget for the rest of your life. For this place, I have searched feverishly and for a long time. Over a rather steep mountain, we came to a forest, where this beautiful property is located. Completely sweaty with 45 degrees outside temperature, we felt much more comfortable inside the castle. Right at the beginning, a beautiful green hall with a dome light and a breathtaking fireplace revealed itself to us. The ceiling paintings show the four seasons in harmony with the surroundings of the castle. This hall is kept in Art Deco style – but the castle itself was built much earlier. The impressions and light moods are overwhelming, I would love to capture the moment forever and not stop taking pictures.
The next day we met Laila, Giulia and her husband. Giulia
has made an outfit especially for this photo shoot in silver alien style with
many details. In addition, one more outfit. The luggage strapped around our
backs we get ready for the ascent. Unfortunately, not everything goes as
planned, it rained overnight and turned the mountain into a clay field. It was
difficult to climb. Furthermore, after we almost made it – gardening work was
taking place on the neighboring property. In order not to risk being discovered
– we waited thirty minutes in the thicket. However, the gardeners seems to have
an idea about our presence and emptied buckets with disgusting contents in our
direction. We decided to break off…and slide down the slope more or less in
the mud. I was so disappointed, especially because Giulia and Laila had put up
with several hours of driving. However, I am not giving up that quickly. We
decided to try another spot and found our way through the forest. We were exhausted
when we arrived – but everybody was very happy that we made it. Later we started
the meticulous preparation of the photo shooting. We discussed the individual
sets and started with make-up and fitting. I am overjoyed with the cooperation
and the results. We even have had time for a second set.
Happily, with many photos in our luggage we go back again.
